Dental emergencies are stressful, and can sometimes feel overwhelming! They are also inconvenient. The good news is that your team at Middletown Dental is here for you.
Whether you are a long-standing patient of record, or brand new to our office, please give us a call if you are experiencing dental sensitivity, pain, or any other emergency situation. With convenient morning, evening, and weekend hours, Dr. Sukumar makes every effort to see emergency patients as soon as possible. Here are some common emergency situations, and how you can handle them.
A Broken or Lost Restoration
If you should have an old filling or crown break or fall out, you will need to replace or repair it in order to prevent further damage or an infection in your tooth. While this may not need immediate attention, we encourage you to contact our office so we can assess your situation to determine when you should be seen.
Injury to Your Soft Tissue
If your cheeks, lips, or gums sustain an injury, there tends to be a lot of blood. The first step is to stop the bleeding with a cold compress and light pressure. Then give Middletown Dental a call for further instructions.
A Tooth Knocked Out
Losing a tooth is a stressful situation and time is of the essence because Dr. Sukumar has the best chance of saving your tooth the faster we can treat you. Be sure to contact us right away, and be careful when transporting your tooth. Do not handle it very much, and try to place it back in its socket if possible. If not, use milk to help keep the cells alive and moist during transport.
Dental Pain or Toothache
If you’re experiencing constant dental pain or a severe toothache, contact our office right away. This is an indicator of a dental infection, which won’t subside without treatment, in fact, it’s likely to get worse and could even lead to tooth loss. Root canal therapy can often preserve an infected tooth if you are proactive about seeking treatment.
A Broken or Chipped Tooth
If your tooth breaks, please gather as many pieces as possible and bring them with you to Middletown Dental. Dr. Sukumar will assess your situation, determine the best treatment for your tooth, and get you feeling comfortable and back on the path to wellness in no time
If your tooth is chipped, give us a call. A small chip may not require immediate attention, yet it should be smoothed at some point so it doesn’t irritate your tongue or other soft tissues.
