Do you have crooked teeth but don't want metal braces detracting from your smile? Invisalign® is a modern orthodontic system that straightens teeth and corrects mild malocclusions using clear aligner technology. Invisalign has transformed countless smiles worldwide, and it continues to improve people's bite, oral function, and confidence.

What Is Invisalign?

Invisalign uses clear aligner trays to straighten teeth and correct a patient's bite. The aligners are made from a flexible thermoplastic material called SmartTrack, making orthodontic treatment inconspicuous and comfortable. Though Invisalign aligners aren't invisible, they are clear and fit snugly over the teeth, making them more discreet than traditional braces' metal wires and brackets.

What Issues Can Invisalign Fix?

Invisalign can correct several concerns, such as:

  • Overbites
  • Underbites
  • Open bites
  • Crossbites
  • Overlapping teeth
  • Crowded teeth
  • Crooked teeth
  • Twisted teeth
  • Gaps and spacing issues

Invisalign clear aligners are effective for treating mild cases of malocclusion and can align a person's arches. However, traditional orthodontics may be more effective if a patient has severe bite issues. Your Invisalign dentist can help you determine if you're a candidate for this alternative treatment or if you're more suited for traditional braces.

What Are the Benefits of Invisalign?

Invisalign offers various benefits, which is why people of all ages continue relying on this system to attain symmetrical smiles. Some of the Invisalign benefits include:

  • Removable and comfortable
  • No dietary restrictions
  • Easy to clean and maintain
  • Fewer dental visits
  • Transparent and discreet, ideal for students and professionals
  • Easier brushing and flossing
  • No orthodontic emergencies (e.g., broken wires, cut lips)
  • An effective treatment that generally takes 24 months or less

How Does Invisalign Work?

Unlike traditional braces that require wire tightening and adjustments, Invisalign uses plastic aligners throughout treatment. Every two weeks, you switch to a new set of Invisalign aligners, which gradually move your teeth into the proper position.

With Invisalign, you only need to visit your dentist every six weeks to check your progress. We recommend wearing your aligners for 20–22 hours each day for optimal results. Only remove them to eat, drink, or clean your aligners. Each person's treatment time varies, but most people can attain their dream smile within 24 months of wearing Invisalign.

Caring for Your Invisalign Smile

Caring for Invisalign is easy. You remove them to eat and drink and rinse them with water every day. To remove food particles and bacteria, you can gently brush your aligners with a soft-bristled toothbrush and clear liquid soap. After brushing, rinse the aligners thoroughly with lukewarm water.

Please do not put your aligners in contact with hot liquid, heat, or the sun, as this will warp their shape and damage them. We also recommend storing them in a protective case when you're not wearing them. You can brush and floss your teeth as usual.
