Your Child's First Dental Visit
Dr. Pradeep Sukumar and Dr. Robert Conti like to begin seeing children in Middletown, Holmdel, New Monmouth, Belford, Leonardo, Keyport, and Union Beach, NJ, for their first appointment around the age of three. But if parents have earlier concerns about their child's teeth, we encourage them to contact us.
By three years, children are typically ready to see the dentist and are interested in the process. We'll take time to acclimate them to the "big chair" and show them the tools and instruments we use.
As adults, we recommend that children visit the dentist for six-month checkups. If any treatment is necessary, we never move forward until you and your child are entirely comfortable with any procedure. We take the time to talk with them about what is happening during their visit.
Extra Children's Dental Services
When your children get older, Drs. Sukumar or Conti may recommend some treatments to build and protect their teeth. For example, fluoride can help strengthen developing teeth and remineralize tooth enamel damaged by bacteria and the acids that cause cavities. We recommend fluoride treatments for children at their routine cleaning and checkup appointments.
Dental sealants are a thin coating that we put over the chewing surfaces of your child's teeth to protect them from tooth decay. Sealants are a quick and non-invasive procedure that dramatically reduces the number of cavities we see in children.
Many dental emergencies are the result of sports injuries. If your child participates in sports, we are happy to recommend the right sports guard to protect their teeth and mouth properly. Your child's mouthguard will help reduce accidents, injuries, or trauma from the kind of impacts that are common in sports and other recreational activities.
Orthodontics for Children in the 07748 Area
Drs. Sukumar and Conti offer comprehensive orthodontics at Middletown Dental for children and teens that may benefit from straighter teeth. This means that he'll be monitoring your child's oral development and can recommend orthodontic treatment if necessary. He can also monitor your child's oral hygiene throughout their treatment to ensure no cavities or other damage occurs during braces.
Some children with crowding or complex bite issues may benefit from early orthodontic intervention. By capitalizing on early braces or an appliance and your child's growth patterns, we may be able to correct many issues and minimize the orthodontic treatment needed in the future.
